As the connection between cars, society and the environment becomes clearer, Mitsubishi stands ready to clear a path to a new era of sustainable partnership.
The Mitsubishi Motors technology is built to satisfy our customer's desire to be more active and take on new challenges.
Our involvement in automobile manufacturing began with the Mitsubishi Model A in 1917. Following the end of World War II and throughout Japan’s high economic growth period until the mid-1970s, we developed technologies focused on reliability and driving performance through our work with commercial vehicles and four-wheel drive vehicles. Over the years, we pioneered new categories of vehicles, including the Pajero which combines the comfort of a passenger car with the excellent manoeuvrability of a four-wheel drive vehicle. We led the RV (recreational vehicle) boom of the 1980s and 1990s in Japan and proposed lifestyles that allow families to enjoy nature through automobiles. Meanwhile, our research and development of electric vehicles (EVs) began in the 1960s and ultimately led to the launch of the i-MiEV, the world’s first mass-production electric vehicle, in 2009. We followed this with the Outlander PHEV, a plug-in hybrid SUV, the culmination of a high degree of fusion between our electrification and all-wheel drive technologies. As a result of enhancing our 4WD systems with the power of electricity, anyone can enjoy the unique driving experience of EVs to their heart’s content. Mitsubishi Motors’ technologies provide a sense of security, safety and peace of mind while meeting the desires of drivers to broaden their range of activity and take on different challenges.
